The Rift Altered
Voi'Rex
Role
Marksman
In the heart of Bandle City, where dreams intertwine with reality, Voi'Rex and Veigar once shared a bond as deep and vibrant as the city's enchanted glades. The curious Voi'Rex, with eyes sparkling with wonder, and the ambitious Veigar, with a heart yearning for power, ventured together into realms unknown, their laughter a joyful melody in the magical air.
As the seasons turned, so did their dreams diverge. Veigar, drawn to the shadows of power, strayed into darker paths. Voi'Rex, captivated by the universe's mysteries, was beckoned by the most enigmatic of all – the Void. Their shared adventures became cherished memories, a testament to a friendship resilient yet vulnerable to the tides of fate.
The news of Veigar's capture and torment at the hands of Noxus reached Voi'Rex during his deepest forays into arcane studies. Torn between the loyalty to a friend and the allure of forbidden knowledge, Voi'Rex made a choice that would forever alter his essence. With a heart heavy with unspoken promises, he stepped into the pulsating abyss of a Void portal, clutching his trusty slingshot – a relic from their days of innocent adventures, now thrumming with nascent, otherworldly energy.
Transformed by the Void's chaotic embrace, Voi'Rex emerged not as the Yordle he once was, but as a being of both Bandle City and the abyss. His slingshot, forever bound to his fate, became a conduit of his newfound powers, a symbol of lost innocence and gained strength.
Veigar, freed from his chains, had become a shadow of his former self – his soul scarred by the darkness he had endured. When Voi'Rex sought him out, armed with the hope of reigniting their lost camaraderie, he found a void where his friend's warmth once resided.
Their paths, intertwined by destiny, now cross in battles and skirmishes that echo across the realms. No longer the inseparable duo of yesteryears, they stand as changed beings – one a fusion of whimsy and the Void's enigma, the other a vessel of vengeance and sorrow. In the heat of battle, their old bond flickers in brief moments, a haunting reminder of what was lost and what could still be salvaged.
Amidst the chaos, Voi'Rex wields his magic-imbued slingshot not only as a weapon but as a link to a past filled with laughter and dreams – a past that whispers of a hope that the rift between two old friends might, someday, be bridged once more.
State-Shift: At the heart of Voi'Rex's arsenal lies his ability to shift between states, each granting him unique enhancements and altering his combat style.
Void Resonance: Each time Voi'Rex uses an ability within a state, he gains 1 stack of Void Resonance. Successfully hitting an enemy with the ability grants an additional stack.
Void Cores: Voi'Rex consumes his Void Resonance stacks to upgrade his abilities, each upgrade earning him a permanent Void Core. The stacking requirement increases progressively: 50/75/125/150…
Blue State Activation: Unleashing the power of the Azure Void, Voi'Rex enters the Blue State, gaining a surge of declining movement speed, eventually leading to a lasting movement speed buff as long as Voi'Rex stays in this state. 20% → 5%
(Mana cost: 30)
Piercing Void Bolt: While in the Blue State, Voi'Rex can further channel the Void's energy by pressing R, launching a penetrating skill shot. This bolt courses through enemies but decelerates upon first impact. He can shoot his projectile while walking.
(Mana cost: 30)
(Visually somewhat like a combination of Kai'Sa W and Ezreal Q)
Green State Activation: By tapping into the Verdant Void, Voi'Rex enters the Green State, enveloping himself in a protective barrier that declines over time, until only a small shield is left 250 → 50 (regenerating over time).
(Mana Cost: 30)
Voidbound Leap: While in the Green State, pressing R empowers Voi'Rex to blink forward. If there are any enemies within the attack radius of Voi'Rex, he gains a shield. Blink distance scales with ability level.
(Mana Cost: 40)
Red State Activation: Activating the Red State, Voi'Rex taps into the Crimson Void's energy and gives Voi’Rex a burst of attack speed, that declines and leaves him with a small attack speed buff 30% → 10%
(Mana Cost: 30)
Flame Rebound Shot: While in the Red State, pressing R allows Voi'Rex to cast a unique magic shot. This projectile slows any enemy it hits and applies a mark. After reaching its target or traveling a certain distance, the shot reverses direction. If it hits an enemy on its way back, it applies an additional slow effect and dissipates.
Attacking a champion with such mark gives Voi’Rex mana back and counts as one void resonance stack.
(Mana Cost: 50)
(Visually somewhat like a combination of Annie Q and Swain E)
R - Void Overcharge
His ultimate ability allows Voi’Rex the usage of all abilities without having to be in the corresponding state, his state effect and skill effect are combined in one ability, and gain unique perks. During this void state, each state buff will completely dissipate over time (no shield, no movement or attack speed), leaving him without any constant buffs, since his main state is the Void state.
Q: Projectile range is longer and doesn't slow down after hitting target. Projectile gets added a Void core scaling for its damage. Movement speed decays slower.
(New Mana Cost: 45)
W: Cooldown of dash is lower and gained state shield is stronger. When he gets a shield by impact, it's much stronger. Shield strength scale additionally with Void core.
(New Mana Cost: 55)
E: The projectile is a bit longer and the rebound doesn't stop upon impact, additionally the second slow scales with Void cores. Attack speed decays slower. Mana gain, stays the same.
(New Mana Cost: 60)
Upgrading abilities allows Voi’Rex to use the Void buffed ability (within their respective state) without requiring the Void state. His Ultimate ability can however only be upgraded as last upgrade, which buffs the void state duration and allows the duration to go longer when an enemy take down or assist is made. Additionally, during his upgraded void state, he gains double the amount of void resonance stacks that he would usually do.
Even though Voi’Rex has a total of 7 abilities, he is balanced by the mechanic that he can’t use all of them at once and if so, only for a certain duration. Mostly Voi’Rex relies on his Ultimate to strongly impact team fights, but can withstand singular or dual fights by repositioning, sustain, slow and burstful attacks. While he represents a combination of Kai’Sa and Udyr he has his complete own uniqueness to him. Staying in a state leads to somewhat of a consistent play style, while in blue the player can adapt to the movement speed. And playing a constant red state would help with poking with basic attacks. Green would allow to reward a defensive play style with a recovering shield and an ability to reposition from danger.
The switch from defensive into offensive or vice versa is something that would give the champion the actual feeling of phase shifting. And since both state activation and ability activation cost mana, it would be encouraged to not switch states too often, while if necessary to be quite a normal possibility. Since not many void cores can be stacked within a game, they will have similar value to Kindreds marks, they will lead to powerful scalings in his Kit.
The ability order is subject to change, since this champion doesn't follow the standard rules, if there are any like (mobility on e, shields and protection on w), depending on the playtest the arrangement can be changed.
