Hey, my name is Furkan, born 17.05.98 in Germany. My parents are Turkish, which makes me full Turkish by ethnicity and German by nationality. As to the feeling of what origin I feel I belong too, IDK? Earth I guess, because it always depends, between what am I choosing?
Inherited culture? (Both)
Place I spent most time in? (Ger)
Mother tongue? (Both, while only Ger would be also fair)
Ethnical origin? (Tr)
Place I was born in? (Ger)
Place I feel emotionally drawn towards? (Both for different reasons)
There are people in both countries that despise my existence, some in Turkey calling my kind "Almancı" which is a way of looking down on people, officially just meaning "Turkish person working in Germany", while some people in Germany would call me "Passdeutscher", which means my German nationality comes only because I have a passport and not because I belong to Germany (though it has to be said, from both sides these are mostly the far right opinions and I have personally never directly suffered under it). And then again others accept me in both places, and some few even actually appreciate the cultural mix-up that comes in existence.
Strong nationality was never something I was an advocate of. I don't oppose the existence of nations and governments, quite the opposite. It's a wonderful thing humans and society have created in order to allow systematic order and an opportunity for things that would otherwise not be possible. But as in other things (such as religion or technical-innovations), at some point things escalate (nationalism, racism, wars, international exploitation) and regulations fall out of balance, the system is abused and death and suffering occurs. Something that in my eyes can happen more easily by the division of people into smaller nations than when things would be made more unified, not exclusively. But I think eventually we are going more and more towards that direction. I mean, before 1945 we didn't have the United Nations (though we still don't manage to make proper use of it even today). Before 1970 we didn't have an official flag for Earth, and though it's a small thing and just a gimmick, it's the idea that counts. The right ideas will prevail, be improved and integrated into society eventually, because even if some individuals already figured out that we could live in peace and harmony and the ways to achieve it, humanity still has to learn from its own mistakes, the far understanding of a few is not enough to change the system, except they apply themselves extraordinarily. Let's hope the few individuals that see the good future, are one of those that can make use of the current system to not just have it as an idea, but to implement them. Hopefully, to make humanity great, not again, but for once.
